KQ6 fun project in the works

Hey folks, This is probably not of interest to most, but to those it is - I hope this is exciting for you! For some background - I consider Tom Lewandowski's KQ6 MIDI edits and soundtrack CD to be amongst the best work he (and everyone else since) ever made, extremely intelligently blending the MT-3...

Re: MT-32 in commercial movies / music

Very cool, farvardin! Thanks for sharing. I used to be big into movie scores and this is a good excuse to get back in. I would imagine the D-50 was the most commonly used, however the multitimbrality of the D-110/MT-32 means they would have been used too. The Bob Siebenberg album "Heads Up - Th...

Re: MT-32 in commercial movies / music

According to the man who performed the soundtrack live, Eric Serra used a Yamaha TX816/DX7 ("You should know that 80 to 90% of the Big Blue synth sounds come from the Yamaha DX7 with a lot of layering.") Plus: Emulator 2, the Akai S 950, the Kurzweil 1000 PX and the Roland MT-32. https://e...

Ken Allen uploads a recreated version of his unused SQ5 Theme

Hey folks, For those who don't know, Ken Allen was the original composer of SQ5, before Ken W got wind of this and told Dynamix they needed to redo it with inhouse people (Ken Allen had left Sierra in 1991). Ken has recreated the 'lost' opening themes that were to be used in the game, you can view i...

Heard back from Tom L!

Hey folks,

This is a "Work In Progress" post reminding me to update you all. But, I wrote to Tom, as I do periodically. This time, unlike most - I heard back! He's doing well. I'll share if he permits and update what I can otherwise.

Regards,
- Alistair

Re: MT32Editor: open source patch editor and librarian

Used it tonight, thanks farvardin! It's incredibly useful to be able to see details I'd been "blind" to before, like individual patch pitch bend, key shift, and reverb status.

King's Quest VI vinyl (and live stream with Chris Braymen tomorrow!)

Hey folks, In just under 24 hours, this event goes live! Supporting Erik Elsom's wonderful KQ6 vinyl, "An Ode to the Isles", a live panel of Sierra fans will be jointed by Sierra's (and KQ6's) master composer, Chris Braymen, to chat about the game, its music, the vinyl project itself and p...
